FAQ’s
Q: Who typically attends classes?
A: Classes are attended by both men and women of all body types, ages and skill levels. Pole dancing is a great expression of personal desire and goal-setting, as well as a fun way to get in shape! Contrary to popular belief, not all pole dancing students are young, extremely fit individuals. We encourage everyone, no matter their situation, to enjoy their bodies and have fun in a safe, comfortable environment.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Proper attire is always required in class. A good rule to follow is if an outfit is suitable to wear to the gym, you can wear it to class! We recommend a sleeveless shirt or tank top and shorts. You will find it is easier to perform moves on the pole with plenty of direct skin-to-pole contact. Excessive sleeve and/or pants fabric will make the pole “slippery”. Jewelry, especially rings, should not be worn, to prevent personal injury and damage to the jewelry. Please refrain from using body lotions and moisturizers as these can make the pole slippery and hard to work with. Please note that classes are always taught barefoot or in stocking feet because it is much easier and safer with the routines we will be performing. The floor is also padded for your safety and comfort.
Q: What do I bring to class?
A: Bring along a small towel, as students typically work up a sweat! A water bottle or sports drink to replenish your fluids is recommended; complimentary bottled water is available for our students.
Q: How long will class take?
A: Actual class instruction lasts one hour. This includes a warm-up stretch, individual pole time and instruction. The studio doors will open a half hour prior to the start of class and will remain open one half hour after class. This time is for any clothes changing, personal preparation and practice, and for us to answer any questions or demonstrate moves. It is not mandatory to come early or stay late, but please allow yourself enough time to be fully dressed and prepared by scheduled class start. If you are not available to make it to a scheduled class, please call Phillip at 602-824-2139.
Q: How do I pay for a class or session?
A: AZ Pole Dance Studio accepts major credit and debit cards, cash and check. Please note that when signing up for a class, you will be charged for the entire amount of the 4-6 week schedule (we currently do not bill in installments). Credit and debit card transactions may be made on the site; please call ahead to verify class schedule.
Q: What is your refund policy?
A: AZ Pole Dance Studio does not provide refunds after registration. If for some reason you aren’t able to complete a class or series of classes you have paid for, you may transfer this remaining balance to a family member or friend with approval.
Q: May I make up missed classes or sessions?
A: Because our classes follow a progressive routine and are taught in a group setting, the availability of make-up sessions are considered on an individual basis at the discretion of the instructor. If you purchase one-on-one instruction, sessions may be re-scheduled with proper notice.
Q: Do you offer Gift Certificates?
A: We are happy to accept registrations on behalf of another student if you would like to purchase one of our packages as a gift. Please contact us for details on how to make someone’s day with a gift! Please note our refund policy (stated above) also applies to gift packages.
Q: What other services are offered?
A: Our studio space has been designed to accommodate special events such as birthday parties, bachelorette parties and solo instruction. Please contact us for details and more information on making reservations.
Q: Do you offer one-on-one instruction?
A: We happily provide personal instruction in a one-on-one setting for those who would prefer to try our fun fitness concept sans the class environment. This is also great for couples or a close-knit group of friends who would prefer to keep their group session private. Our facility features a privacy curtain which is drawn for our classes; we are also able to adapt lighting and sound to your personal preferences. Please contact us for details on pricing and one-on-one instruction availability.
Q: How many students are in the typical class?
A: Our studio is designed so that all students are able to have their own pole and space throughout the class; this is done for your enjoyment and safety. The instructor in each class has a pole positioned in the middle of the studio. Our typical class allows for eight students. This small number ensures personalized instruction and attention for everyone participating. Most classes do fill up; therefore you should expect to have seven other enthusiastic students learning alongside you!
Q: Is there an age/weight/fitness-level restriction?
A: We welcome all students, both women and men, ages 18 and up. Please note that we do not allow spectators or children present in the studio during class for everyone’s safety and enjoyment, though they are allowed in the studio before and after class. Our beginning course is designed for students of all fitness levels, shapes and sizes. Please inform the instructor if you have any health concerns or questions that could impact the experience. If you are currently under the care of a physician for a health condition, please seek their advice before beginning and/or modifying any fitness routine.
Q: Are female-only classes available?
Although we seek to serve all students equally, we do recognize some students may be more comfortable training with only the same gender. If you would prefer this, please notify us when calling to inquire about class times.
Q: Do I have to start at the beginner’s course? Can I re-take a course instead of advancing?
A: Because proper form, pole safety and techniques are taught in the beginner’s course, we do require our students to start in this class. If you prefer to re-take the beginner’s course instead of moving to the intermediate course upon completion, we are very supportive of this. We understand some students may have different goals for their fitness routine and desires for the classes that may not include progressing to the more advanced levels.
Q: Are there risks with pole dancing?
A: As with any fitness activity, there can be an element of risk; pole dancing is no different. Our beginner’s course will help teach you about safety issues and proper stretching to help minimize risk and maximize enjoyment. Please be aware of the following: some students may experience bruises from pole contact, pole friction and/or chaffing and slipping. Please inform the instructor if you have any health concerns or questions that could impact your experience. If you are currently under the care of a physician for a health condition, please seek their advice before beginning or modifying any fitness routine.
Q: How is AZ Pole Dance Studio different from other pole dance classes?
We pride ourselves on being set apart from other pole dancing experiences for a variety of reasons:
- We designed our studio from the ground up with this activity first and foremost in mind. We are not a yoga studio, a traditional gym or a dance studio that was converted to accommodate pole dancing.
- Our poles were custom engineered for just our facility and feature smooth rotation movement. Others do not offer rotating poles.
- We have a soft, padded floor. This provides for shock absorption and better safety than traditional flooring.
- Our classes are smaller and more personal than others in the Valley, providing for a truly engaging personal experience. Our fees are also very competitive.
- Our classes are always fun and energetic, providing for a truly unique and invigorating experience.
- Our instructors have professional pole dancing experience, and always go the extra mile to make our students feel comfortable and at ease.
- Our location is in the epicenter of the Valley, in Tempe near Tempe Marketplace. Convenient freeway access to our studio and plenty of free parking make for a hassle-free trip to our location.
